Formal appraisals for insurance and leasing purposes are services that carry a fee for evaluation and documentation of the equipment being appraised. Lesser appraisals quoted out to determine market value may not carry a fee for the evaluation and quotation of a particular item. Formal appraisals will always come with documentation of the equipment being appraised. 

Appraisal are a reflection of the current market value of an item that is still in production by the manufacturer or is an item that is in a fairly high demand at the time of the appraisal.
